Bob Gale squashes current sequel/remake chatter

This past Tuesday, Bob Gale appeared on the Opie & Anthony radio show to discuss Back to the Future. During the nearly 1-hour interview, Gale was asked the inevitable question whether there were any new sequels or remakes in the works to which he quickly denied, adding "All we can do if we did that is fail."

Still, there are some bloggers out there who have intentionally twisted the facts, posting misleading headings to the contrary which suggest that a new film was confirmed by Gale. Please, don't buy into this hype.

One of the things we do here at BTTF.com which filmmakers Gale and Robert Zemeckis rely upon us to assist with is rumor control, specifically when it comes to these outlandish rumors about additional sequels, remakes, etc. For years, we've had a direct line to the famed filmmakers and they trust us to provide accurate and incisive information regarding the Back to the Future™ franchise to our readers.

In 1990, the filmmakers attended the "Back-to-Back-to-Back" screening of all three films on May 24 in Los Angeles in which the above photo was taken of Zemeckis, Gale and Neil Canton holding up t-shirts which then rejected the idea of a fourth film.

Jumping ahead nearly 19 years, nothing much has changed. Bob was kind enough to give BTTF.com the following official statement today regarding such idle rumors and bogus claims which will remain true indefinitely until he specifically informs this site otherwise:

"As both Robert Zemeckis and I have stated repeatedly over the years, we have no plans or desires to make another Back to the Future movie — not a Part 4, nor a remake of Part 1. Nor does Universal or Amblin Entertainment have any such plans. How do we know? Because, per our contracts with these companies, no Back to the Future sequel or remake can even be scripted without discussing it with us first. No such discussions have taken place. We are very proud of the Trilogy as it stands and we want to leave it as is. I hope this quells the current rumors."

"As always, BTTF.com is and will be the definitive source for news and information regarding Back to the Future. True or false, you can always find out for sure at BTTF.com."
